Training clinically-focused physicians across the spectrum of internal medicine and its subspecialties
in an environment that fosters critical thinking, scholarly activity, teaching, innovation, and caring for the folks since 1966
The Internal Medicine Bedside Ultrasound Program, "IMBUS", started in 2009, is one of the most extensive diagnostic and procedural ultrasound training programs in the country for our internal medicine residents and faculty. Our faculty core of ultrasound mentors allow us to provide residents with extensive mentored hands-on training at the bedside throughout the 3 years of residency in both the hospital and clinic setting. Our program leadership directs POCUS courses at the national level.
The residency program uses extensive simulation training for procedural skills during your PGY1 month-long 1:1 rotation on the residency's long-standing (2006) procedure team. The residency's own Center for Clinical Simulation also provides state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation for multi-disciplinary training in advanced resuscitation and code scenarios every other Friday. The construction of a new 5-room simulation center and education facility was completed 5/2023.
The Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern and Hennepin County Medical Center have a general cardiology fellowship, and sub-fellowships in interventional, advanced heart failure/transplant, and one of the nation's 5 valve & structural heart fellowships. These fellowships are a wonderful opportunity for individuals to experience world-class cardiology at two distinct sites in Minneapolis. We house a vascular surgery fellowship and host fellows from the University of MN and HCMC.
